about phil
Phil Hutty was born and brought up in Devon. He is married to Rachel and they have one thirteen year old son, Joseph.Phil has spent all of his working life in Social care working with a wide range of client groups over 24 years this has included adults/children with disabilities, youth work , child protection and managing a leaving care team. Phil qualified as social worker in 1991 and has for the past five years worked as an Independent Reviewing officer overseeing the work Social workers agreeing care plans and making critical decisions in child protection work. Over the last year Phil has been working for Devon County Council on a freelance basis.
Phil was drawn to politics through his experiences in Social work; he was particularly concerned about the many injustices he could see to the most vulnerable people in society by the then Conservative government.
Sick of the playground mentality and lack of understanding many MP’s had about the expenses Phil feels it is time to change politics making Politicians accountable to those who really employ them, that ‘s you and me. He hoped , like many, that with the coming of the Labour party in 1997 it would bring a new start, but after 13 years it has become clear that the government simply won’t listen to the people on issues like the Iraq war, the greed of banks and even promising a referendum on Europe.
He is offering the people of Central Devon someone who will be honest believes in transparency and will be fully accountable. His is backed by a party that understands no one party can always be right and who is committed to ensuring we have a fair voting system, fair taxes for all and investment in people. He is determined to represent central Devon in Westminster full time, not a Westminster MP with a constituency in Devon. Phil wants to be an MP because he simply wants to make a difference, he has seen too much bad legislation too many badly written laws and little understanding in the corridors of Westminster of life outside the big cities.
He has lived his whole life in the Westcountry and most of that in a rural community. When the opportunity came to represent the Liberal Democrats in Central Devon he knew it was somewhere he could represent an area he could instinctively understand and one he could stand up for in Parliament and speak from his heart. He wants to be an MP that puts the constituency first and he belongs to a party that won’t make him put party politics ahead of what’s right for local people because Devon deserves better.
